The Valuable Data Sheet
A static page of information that you gather. And about email newsletters.
You have a thesis.
Ask yourself, what useful information can you provide? Is it valuable? Does it solve an urgent problem for yourself, for anyone? Is that information easy to find or will you create it?
When a startup launches, there have to be at least some users who really need what they're making — not just people who could see themselves using it one day, but who want it urgently. - Paul Graham
Examples (found and created information)
NerdWallet started because its founder Tim Chen created a spreadsheet to help his sister find the best credit card. The comparable data was buried in credit card terms and not the default google search result.
The AirBnb thesis was front and center: “Forget hotels… Stay with a local when traveling”. They went on to create this information by listing their air mattress in their living room. All marketplaces, job boards, and exchanges work under this framework.
Bitcoin started as a thesis on how the world should be different. Fundamentally, your thesis will always be about a change in the world.
Step 1: Create your static html - this is your valuable data sheet.
Start with writing down your thesis onto a blank html page.
This will help develop your message and positioning. Write your value proposition before building it. Do not css or add design this page, but draw designs if needed, if I can't understand your message in plaintext or your own personal diagrams, I don't want to see a pretty <div> box thing next to it.
Tech Stack: No logins. No input from users. One way communication. Static webpage with HTML, CSS. Later: Google analytics, CDN service (for heavy traffic)
On the next newsletter, we’ll talk about what this page means.
